
To use magic in Gothic Remake, we have two ways to choose from. To become a full-fledged mage and use runes or to take the other way and support ourselves with scrolls. However, each option has its advantages and disadvantages. In addition to the typically offensive spells in the game, there are also support spells (e.g. Light) or those that make movement easier (teleportation).
Runes
If we set our sights on the mage’s path, we will be able to use more and more powerful runes as the circles of magic increase. The main advantage of runes is their inexhaustible power. As long as you have the necessary amount of mana, you can cast spells as much as you want. The spells available from runes have different characteristics, in Gothic Remake there are support runes such as Light and Healing, offensive runes such as Fireball and Wave of Ice, as well as movement support runes such as teleportation.

Scroll
Unlike runes, scrolls are single-use. Once used they lose their properties and in order to cast a spell we need another one. The advantage, however, is their ease of use – we do not need to know the magic circles to use a scroll. The scrolls in Gothic Remake are also more varied and, for example, we can use a scroll to transform into a monster when runes do not give us such effects.
