Saturday saw the first live meeting of the members of the team developing the Golden Gate 2: Heart of the Goddess total-conversion modification to Gothic 2: Night of the Raven. It took place in Warsaw, and was attended by 8 people from various places in the country – far and near. It lasted almost 8 hours – had the opportunity to participate in it.
Saturday with Gothic
It all started with the desire for two “Goldengaters” to meet in Warsaw. We had already talked about the possibility of a meeting, but just on 6 July, two members of the team had the opportunity to be in the capital of Poland. And more people started to declare their arrival.
The meeting was unique, with participants coming from far away – this required good organisation. The starting point was Fragola in the Złote Tarasy ( the shopping and entertainment centre). T-shirts with the project logo on the chest and the Golden Gate icon on the left sleeve were prepared for everyone.
After introducing ourselves, who among us uses which nickname, as well as a smalltalk, we discussed technical things. We plan to complete the beta version of the modification this December. After 2 hours in Fragola, our next destination was the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. This required a kilometre and a half of walking.
A group of 8 men in identical black T-shirts with inscriptions drew the eyes and curiosity of those passing by – as well as the sun’s rays in the 30-degree heat. We were lucky with the weather, as it was already raining the following day. Thanks are due to Adanos.
Hour 12:30 – according to the plan, we are supposed to reach the new pedestrian and bike bridge over the Vistula. A great place to see the panorama of Warsaw and another group photo.
A lot of walking, so we planned to have lunch at the Basilisk restaurant. With decor to match the Old Town it’s located in. I also saw miniature ships there, although none of them resembled the Esmeralda.
We had planned to go to Krasinski Garden, but this time by driving rather than walking, we arrived at the Royal Baths Park. As Gothic fans are wont to do, we associated the surroundings we saw with the elements the game consists of. The lowering of the terrain gave the impression that we were descending into a valley. We also crossed a bridge under which the Old Camp may have been located. We also saw peacocks.
Before 5pm we set off by bus to the station area. Some people arrived by car, some by train. I had covered about 500 kilometres to get to the meeting in Warsaw. I knew it was going to be special and I didn’t want to miss it. It definitely motivated me to work. I was able to talk to people I had only known so far via the Internet.
THe ending
